DEEP FRIED FUNK SOCIETY

Playing Friday

Eclectic and new wave jazz

Performing During the Wine Walk

Playing Saturday

Eclectic and new wave jazz

A vibrant band with catchy pop/funk songs, and carefully selected personnel—Some say the sound is reminiscent of Steely Dan! The Deep Fried Funk Society was first formed in 1996 as a studio project by André Berry.

Andre is currently the touring bassist with David Sanborn’s Electric Band, and has worked with such diverse notables such as: The Busboys, The Brothers Johnson (filling in for Louis Johnson, and the first to do so) Jeffrey Osborne, Sophie B. Hawkins, TLC, A Tribe Called Ques, Chris Standring, Mindi Abair, Kirk Whalum and Dave Koz.

Several years ago, Duane Benjamin (who we will call “Ben-Jammin” heretofore), happened to drop by a club and approached André about forming a union. Andre knew that Ben-Jammin had a reputation as an incredible musician and horn arranger, and immediately the The Deep Fried Funk Society was formed.

Experienced players all, Ben-Jammin knew the exact guys to call for the project — Sam “Sameo!” Morgan, Walter Simonsen, and drummer Kerry Griffin, and many others.
